Hot Tub Bath
The Hot Bath opens the pores, dilating the blood vessels bringing fresh blood and nutrition into the tissues.
Uses
- Poor circulation
- Muscle stiffness
- Congestion of internal organs
- Fatigue
- Colds
- Flu
- Removal of waste products
Items Needed
- Bath thermometer
- Basin of ice water
- 2 wash cloths for compresses
- 2-3 bath towels
- Folded bath towel for pillow
- If prolonged: Ice bag and water to drink
- Thermometer for checking body temperature
Treatment procedure
- Pray with person being treatment
- Room should be warm and free from drafts
- Fill tub 2/3 full of water 101-104F
- Assist person into the tub
- If room is too cool, cover exposed body parts with a towel
- Keep head cool with a compress
- Body temperature will rise 1-2 degrees (check body temperature)
- Do not let body temperature rise above 102F
- First treatment should last 15-20 minutes, increasing with successive treatments, up to 30 minutes
- Keep the person well hydrated during the treatment
- Check pulse every 3-5 minutes, being careful not to exceed 115 bpm (if person is not a child or in a feeble condition)
- Apply ice to the heart if pulse exceeds the above mentioned
- Upon termination of the treatment apply cool water to the body to restore to a normal condition
- Assist person from the tub, (dizziness or fainting may occur)
- Dry the person off
- Have the person rest from 30 minutes to 1 hour
- Cover the person with a sheet and blanket while resting
Special Notes
- Aged or frail people will not tolerate a hot bath well
- Persons on pharmaceutical drugs should proceed with caution
- If person feels faint or nausea terminate treatment
- Never leave person unattended
- Infants and small children should be treated the same as frail people.
